Sunday Talk: “Settler Stories: Essays from the Edge of Ecology and Memory”
July 6 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm PDT

In this thoughtful and thought-provoking presentation, Don Gayton—acclaimed Summerland-based ecologist and creative non-fiction author—shares selected readings and reflections from his forthcoming manuscript, Settler Stories.
Blending local history, ecology, climate insight, and wry humour, Don explores the layered relationships between people and place in the Okanagan-Similkameen. His storytelling weaves together the settler experience, shifting landscapes, and personal fascinations—from grasslands and wildfire to the cultural echoes of his American upbringing and his adopted Canadian home.
Come prepared for curiosity, laughter, and reflection, as Don challenges the traditional boundaries of science and memoir, using story as a bridge between ecological understanding and lived experience.
