Sunday Talk: “Traditional songs of BC: Logging, Fishing, Mining”

June 8 @ 1:30 pm 2:30 pm PDT

presentation in apple house

Jon Bartlett and Rika Ruebsaat, Princeton-based historians, singers, and champions of traditional music, will guide us through the rich musical heritage of British Columbia’s early industries. Drawing from decades of research and fieldwork, they will share songs created by the loggers, miners, and fishers who built this province—songs made “by ordinary people, in ordinary language, for pleasure and not for profit.”

Through lively performance and fascinating historical context, Jon and Rika will bring these voices from the past back to life, offering a rare glimpse into the hopes, hardships, and humour of BC’s working people. An engaging, toe-tapping journey into the true folk traditions of our region!

🗓️ Date: Sunday, June 8, 2025
🕜 Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
🎟️ Admission: Included with daily site admission OR free with a 2025 Season Pass.
