Sunday Talk: “Desert in Bloom: The Osoyoos Desert Centre and the Ecosystem It Protects”
August 17 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm PDT

Nestled in the South Okanagan, the Antelope-brush ecosystem is one of the most endangered habitats in Canada—and one of its most fascinating. In this presentation, Jayme Friedt, Executive Director of the Osoyoos Desert Centre, will introduce us to this rare landscape and the unique plants and animals that call it home.
She’ll also share the story of the Desert Centre itself: a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation, restoration, research, and education on 67 protected acres just outside Osoyoos. With warmth, insight, and deep knowledge of the region, Jayme will explore the challenges and successes of stewarding such an important piece of our ecological heritage—and how we can all play a part in its protection.
Whether you’re a naturalist, gardener, or just curious about what makes our local desert so special, this talk promises to open your eyes to a hidden gem of the South Okanagan.
