Description

Rowan berries are the small red berries found on the Mountain Ash tree; although many people assume they’re poisonous (even bids seem to only eat them as a last resort!), they’ve been used for centuries as a natural medicine for digestion and respiratory health, to make wine and as a preserve.

The berries are only marginally edible fresh, but when cooked and turned into a jelly, they’re a great accompaniment for rich meat, whether pork or game meat. (Think cranberry, but with a more bitter aftertaste.) It’s not a taste everyone would enjoy, but if you’re adventurous, give this a shot!
