Contract Opportunity: Landscape Labourer

The Grist Mill and Gardens at Keremeos is a twelve acre provincial historic site that features spectacular heritage gardens (both ornamental and vegetable), fascinating heritage buildings and the only working waterwheel-powered flour mill in Western Canada. We also have a small restaurant, gift shop and campground and host a large number of special events through the season.

We have recently received a grant to do significant work on our gardens and grounds, restoring some of the heritage character that has been lost in recent years and expanding the educational aspects of our gardens. This is a large and significant project for us, and we need help!

We’re currently looking for help with various landscaping projects on the site over the next two months. Candidates must be able to lift 50+lbs and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Tasks performed will be varied and may include digging trenches, carting and spreading soil and gravel, cutting sod and digging in new garden beds, building fences, transplanting perennials, weeding, planting bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees, raking and more. May also include assisting with landscape constructions, irrigation repair, pruning and other more specialized tasks, depending on skills and abilities. Currently, this work will go until May 15th but the right candidate may earn themselves a permanent position on our staff after this project is complete. Starting wage for this position is $17.50/hour.
