The Grist Mill and Gardens at Keremeos is a provincial historic site that features spectacular gardens, fascinating heritage buildings and the only working waterwheel-powered flour mill in Western Canada.
In the last six years, the Grist Mill has seen incredible growth with a six-fold increase in attendance, thanks in part to a commitment to quality on-site experience. Fueled by our talented and enthusiastic staff, we are united in our passion to being one of the fastest growing attractions in BC as we work to be an innovative leader in the heritage community.
We’re looking for someone who wants to join our team to help us provide support to our kitchen for both regular food service as well as special event support.
This position will be responsible for assisting kitchen staff with both daily and special event food service during the 2020 summer season. The kitchen supports a small restaurant that is one of the main tourist draws to the site, for its farm-to-table menu and philosophy.
Some of the site events already being planned for 2020 by our partners include community-oriented festive days on Victoria Day, Fathers Day, Canada Day, BC Day and Labour Day as well as an outdoor evening summer concert series, a speaker series through the summer and more. Where possible, these students will contribute to the public learning opportunities at these events and elsewhere on the techniques and benefits of historical growing, preparation and preservation of local agricultural products.
- currently enrolled as student in a culinary studies program or has more than one year of food service experience
- excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- ability to work both independently and in a team
- ability to think creatively
- between 15 and 30 years of age and returning to full-time studies in the fall
- willing to commit to working 35 hours per week from May 15 – September 4, 2020
Students still in high school will also be considered even if they don’t meet the above qualifications, with the understanding they may work limited hours until late June.
