Are you proficient at preserves, brilliant at baking, daft at crafts, well-versed at veggies or adept at flower arrangement? If so, we might have a great opportunity for you to show off your skills. We’re excited to announce that on Saturday Sept 27 AND Sunday Sept 28th, the Grist Mill and Gardens at Keremeos will be hosting our ELEVENTH annual Heritage Fall Fair!
Admission to the Fall Fair is $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors. Admission is free for Season Pass holders.
Escape to one of the most charming concert venues in the South Okanagan and Similkameen. Nestled under ancient horse chestnut trees in our heritage gardens, the rustic Summer Kitchen stage features a lineup that transcends genres: these artists have won Juno Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards and even a Grammy and have have an oversized impact on the Canadian music scene. As the sun sets behind rugged mountains of the Similkameen, the magic unfolds. Attendees spread blankets and lawn chairs, immersed in the soft glow of twinkling lights and paper lanterns. Our concerts celebrate a range of acoustic genres–folk, roots, Celtic, Bluegrass and even acoustic blues. Talented artists weave together traditional melodies (with roots as deep as our venue) and thoughtful original compositions. Let the music carry you away–where history whispers and melodies linger.
Artist Bio
Like the powerful mandolinist, composer and Grammy winner at its helm, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned, sophisticated and stripped-down, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary.

Artist Bio
There are celebrated musical troubadours. And then there is Stephen Fearing, whose vivid, lyrical songs are exalted by his masterful guitar playing and melodic, cobalt voice. Over a long and varied career highlighted by critically acclaimed albums and two JUNO Awards, Fearing has shared studios and stages with an eclectic assortment of marquee artists, from Merle Haggard to Richard Thompson to Cassandra Wilson. In addition to his extensive solo achievements, Fearing is also co-founder of veteran Canadian roots-rock giants Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. The through-line is Fearing’s highly relatable, genre-busting music, which invariably locates the human condition in all its messy splendour. “I am a storyteller much more than a singer/songwriter,” Fearing says, “because I realized my story was less interesting than The Story.”

Artist Bio
Leonard Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’ is a metaphor for the inspiration that flows between songwriters, each toiling away on their own, but connected by their shared craft. Moved by this concept, celebrated BC singer-songwriters Oliver Swain and Glenna Garramone collaborated to produce a project that is a dialogue through song and a tribute to the legendary songwriter. Re-imagining both rare and classic works of Cohen, the duo have crafted a sound that resonates with both longtime Cohen fans and a younger audience. They collaborate with a rotating cast of players and singers. Tower of Song began as a one-off tribute night for a packed house at Vancouver’s Media Club in 2011, and has since grown into an actively touring folk duo. Produced by Garramone, she invited fellow Victoria musician Oliver Swain, and the show gave Swain and Garramone the chance to grow their musical chemistry. Together have arranged some of Cohen’s timeless songs beautifully, for two voices, banjo, string bass, piano and guitar. Tower of Song have played over 90 concerts to thousands of people in theatres and folks clubs across Canada, touring in support of their debut album.

216 people are attending Concert: Valdy
Artist Bio
Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, Canada has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for over 50 years. Remembered for “Play Me a Rock and Roll Song”, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968, Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), seven Juno nominations, and four Gold albums to his credit. Valdy also appeared on the CBC TV show The Beachcombers as the environmental activist “Halibut” Stu. Of Canadian folk artists in the mid-1970s, only Gordon Lightfoot was more popular. As the true Canadian legend he is, he was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in June 2011.
Today, he is based on Salt Spring Island, where he lives with his wife Kathleen and three dogs.

Artist Bio
The Lonesome Town Painters are a tried-and-true, bona fide bluegrass band hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia. These fellas have a look, style and sound that harkens back to the raw and ragged edge of the genre. Their soaring harmonies and driving instrumentation have come to define their spirited performances, while their honestly written originals pay tribute to golden era pioneers. Playing an eclectic mix of songs about love, heartache, prison, and the odd gospel number, this hard-hitting quartet would be equally at home in the barroom on Saturday night or the church house on Sunday morning, comfortable treading that fine line between perdition and salvation.

Members of JUNO nominated, Canadian Folk Music Award winning neo-folk quintet Aerialists, Elise Boeur & Adam Iredale-Gray explore fiddle music in fluid, easy lockstep. Big Little Lions are an award winning duo who were born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Since then they have been cranking out infectious folk pop songs that are jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working side-by-side instead of living in different countries. They have released 6 albums to date, which have garnered them awards and nominations including the CFMA Ensemble of the Year, Independent Music Awards Americana Song of the Year and John Lennon Songwriting Competition Song of the Year. Their critically acclaimed music has appeared on the CBC’s Top 20 and featured on shows like q and Vinyl Cafe. The duo consists of Paul Otten and Helen Austin, both hugely prolific songwriters – their music has been placed in hundreds of movie trailers, ads, network TV shows.
Their live show is quite the spectacle with Paul playing drums, bass and keyboard all while singing lead vocals. Helen, who is no slacker either, sings, plays guitar and foot percussion. They use every limb, and then some, to make two people sound like a full band.
