“What a surprise! Dazzling streams of light! Fancy a fine tree with a hundred blue, red, white and green candles, and its branches loaded with all manners of fine things!” From ‘The Children’s International Christmas Album’ by the Countess D’Elff (classmark 1870.11.30)

It going to be a busy Christmas season at the Grist Mill with a variety of special events planned over the next month. In addition to a busy weekend of family-oriented activity as part of Light Up Weekend (Dec 2-4), the Grist Mill will also be hosting a series of Christmas craft workshops.

Tradition is at the heart of each of our crafty Christmas workshops and what better way to relive old Christmas customs than by trimming your tree the traditional way. People in the Victorian era were masters of improvising and reusing existing materials to make charming decorations. On Wednesday, November 23 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, we will show you how to use everyday household items to make delightful new ornaments to trim your tree.

The fee for this two hour workshop is $20 and every participant will get to take their own finished decorations home. Also, the kitchen will have dinner options available before the workshop, starting at 5:30 PM. Advanced registration is required; please call 250-499-2888 or email info@oldgristmill.ca.
